My Obsession

When I was a little girl I was obsessed with one thing. My obsession started to fizzle a little by the time I had graduated highschool. To do this day, this obsession still holds a special part in my heart but it is not near as important to me as it once was. It really was my life.

What was my obsession?

Hockey.
Boston Bruins hockey.
The good ole 90′s hockey with Ray Bourque, Cam Neely, Adam Oates…just to name a few Bruins. They were also the days of Wayne Gretzky, Brett Hull, and Mario Lemieux. Yes, those all came from the top of my head…along with many others who are not named here. You see, I started watching hockey in the late 80′s and my love for the game just grew. I used to collect hockey cards (proset, upperdeck, topps) and I even played street hockey with the boys…i was always goalie. Any trivia question you could throw at me, I knew the answer too. I can remember a lot even still from the 90′s it was a true love affair I had with hockey.
In middle school and early high school my love affair turned obsessive. I made rules for hockey. I NEVER missed a Bruins game. I would make sure I was home for all 80+ games and no one could call me or come over during the games. Seriously, all my friends new if the Bruins were on, not to call. And even though the team wasn’t the greatest, I was never a fair-weather fan. I stuck by my team. Even when Ray Bourque got traded to Colorado so that he could have a chance at winning the Stanley Cup (which he did btw), it was a bittersweet moment. Thats a true dedicated fan right there!
Late high school and after high school I finally got a life of my own. I was still a hockey fan though. But then the NHL lockout happened and I swear that totally changed the game for me. And I don’t blame any one side for it, but after not having hockey for that one year i’ve never been able to get back into it the same way. However, I do still consider myself a fan. I still love going to games. Whether its a good thing or a bad thing, i don’t watch nearly as many games as I did.
But let me tell you…..playoff hockey. Is. The. Best!! The Bruins played (and beat) Montreal last night in a great game. And this year the B’s may actually have a shot at going all the way…which I have never witnessed in my lifetime. Its hard not to get into a hockey game when its the playoffs and fans are pumped (and hockey fans are the craziest!), the hits are harder, and the players play like its their last chance. I love it!! So even as I sit here and write this I’m bouncing around in my seat all pumped up just thinking about Game 2 tomorrow night.
Are there any other crazy hockey fans out there??
Go Bruins!

Fellow hockey addict here, though my team is the Kings. We’re not in the playoffs (again) but I’ll be watching anyway. I love playoff hockey!

I know exactly what you mean about the lockout though, I feel the same way. For some reason I just can’t get into it like I used to.

I grew up watching Hockey Night In Canada every Sunday night; it was a family affair!

I’m a huge Vancouver Canucks fan; I don’t live in Vancouver, but off the coast on Vancouver Island!

The game tonight (the 2nd against St Louis) has my throat so sore from screaming at the tv!!!

    I LOVE it!!

    I think I love you.

Hockey Night in Canada was the best part of my childhood.

I am a rabid Vancouver Canucks fan.
My sons room is done in retro Canuck colours and I have every playoff towel from the last 8 or so years.

I have kissed the Stanley Cup and I may have slipped it the tongue.

Hockey on TV every night of the week? Heaven :)

The Canucks are taking the Cup this year!!!! 14 games to go!
